Academia

My vision is the permanent integration of the substantive activities of teaching, research and social action, in such a way that they continually generate feedback and generate knowledge, significant pedagogical actions in the classroom and benefits in society.

The projects are carried out at the University of Costa Rica, with a joint and comprehensive vision, where the processes meet and continually enrich in the following areas:

Teaching:

Teaching, both in the Higher Mathematics course and in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Electrical Engineering, has been strengthened through the projects:

  • 322-B9-105 “Significant learning in Higher Mathematics”
  • IE-2185-2020 «Strengthening the teaching of Artificial Intelligence Applied to Electrical Engineering»
  • When teaching the courses, it is intended that the activities generated in Social Action and Research permeate the teaching task, through innovation in evaluative activities, the connections of theory with practice and teaching exchange. The classes are also used to motivate students to participate in research and social action, highlighting the social benefit and the possibility of generating new knowledge. Research:

The purpose of the research activities is both to generate new knowledge in the areas of signal processing and artificial intelligence, and to encourage student participation in experimentation processes and the publication of results in rigorous scientific frameworks. The main projects in which I have participated are:

  • B9105 «Development, implementation and testing of machine learning algorithms for the improvement of signals degraded with noise in speech applications».
  • Pry01-1028-2022 «Investigation of the state of the art for the application of machine learning in the analysis of spatio-temporal data».

Social Action

Social Action is the area that contextualizes and puts the other two axes in contact with the national reality, in addition to seeking to generate direct benefits for the population, especially the population with disabilities.

The main projects in which I have participated in this line have been with the TecnoInclusion UCR group, a multidisciplinary team made up of professionals in Special Education, Counseling and Physical Therapy. The projects are:

  • ED-3416 «Speech technologies to improve the quality of life of the population with disabilities».

  • TCU-748 «Technology to improve the quality of life of the population with disabilities». Some videos produced:
